Cryolab Publishes Guide to On-Site Liquid Nitrogen Supply and Safe Dispensing

eTradeWire News/10852056
The guide covers sizing an on-site reservoir for real use, dispensing through a hose instead of pouring, and planning safe routes from supply vessel to dewar.

WEST SUSSEX, U.K. - eTradeWire -- Cryolab has published a practical guide to the part of the liquid nitrogen supply chain that every laboratory controls itself: the journey from the on-site supply vessel to the dewar on the bench.

Liquid nitrogen reaches most sites by bulk tank or supply vessel. From that point on, reservoir sizing, decanting, moving vessels around the building and the rooms they end up in are the responsibility of the laboratory. The guide sets out how to plan each step.

Reservoir sizing. Laboratories are advised to total the weekly use of every storage vessel, dry shipper and bench dewar, add the reservoir's own evaporation, and allow a margin for a late delivery, so that nitrogen never runs out and forces rushed decanting.

Dispensing without pouring. A dispenser tank such as the CryoFill range delivers liquid through a hose, so staff do not have to tip and pour from a heavy vessel.

Safe routes. The route full vessels take through corridors and lifts should be written down. Nobody should travel in a lift with a liquid nitrogen vessel, and trolleys must suit the floor and thresholds.

The destination room. Oxygen monitoring and ventilation should be sized for the nitrogen stored and decanted there, with the right PPE at the point of transfer.

Cryolab supplies cryogenic storage equipment, consumables and servicing to IVF clinics, biobanks, hospitals and research laboratories worldwide.
