Cryolab Publishes Guide to Standardising Micromanipulation Pipettes Across IVF Teams

eTradeWire News/10852185
The guide covers matching ICSI, holding, biopsy and denudation pipettes to technique, setting bend angle by rig, and keeping pipette lots traceable.

WEST SUSSEX, U.K. - eTradeWire -- Cryolab has published a practical guide for IVF laboratory managers and senior embryologists on standardising micromanipulation pipettes across a team.

Pipettes are small, inexpensive per unit and used in large numbers, which makes them easy to under-manage. The guide explains what each pipette type does: denudation pipettes strip cumulus cells, holding pipettes steady the oocyte or embryo, ICSI pipettes inject a single sperm, and biopsy pipettes remove cells for preimplantation genetic testing.

Bend angle and the rig. The guide explains that bend angle is set by the microscope, micromanipulator, tool holder and dish rather than personal taste, and that aligning rig set-up resolves most disagreements between operators.

Standardisation. Laboratories are advised to write one specification per pipette type per rig, allow a small number of documented alternatives, and record who uses what.

Traceability. Lot numbers should be recorded at goods-in and against each case, with suspect lots quarantined and new deliveries inspected before use.

The guide also recommends reviewing each technique once a year, checking which specifications are in use, whether outliers can be brought into line, and whether outcome data shows any link to pipette changes.

Cryolab supplies IVF consumables, cryogenic storage equipment and servicing to clinics, hospitals and research laboratories worldwide.
