TrueDriveCost Launches Free Calculators for the Real Cost of Owning a Car

PHILADELPHIA - eTradeWire -- Most car shoppers negotiate the sticker price and ignore the number that actually matters: what the vehicle costs over the years they own it. TrueDriveCost, a new free-tools site launched this month, is built to show that whole number — and it does it without a signup, a quote form, or a lead-gen funnel.

The site's flagship True Cost to Own calculator estimates five years of ownership across depreciation, fuel, insurance, maintenance, loan interest, and fees, then reports the total three ways: per year, per month, and per mile. The per-mile figure is the one that tends to change minds, reframing a $40,000 purchase as a cost that can be compared against how much a person actually drives.

TrueDriveCost ships with 11 calculators in three clusters. "Cost to Own" covers True Cost to Own, Cost Per Mile, Car Depreciation, and a Monthly Car Budget tool. "Buying & Loans" includes an Auto Loan calculator with full amortization, Car Affordability, Auto Refinance, Lease vs. Buy, and Trade-In vs. Keep. "Fuel & EV" adds an EV vs. Gas break-even tool and a gas-versus-hybrid fuel-cost comparison.

Every calculator shows its formula and its assumptions, and the national-average defaults — depreciation curves, fuel prices, insurance and maintenance costs — are sourced from AAA, the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the Federal Highway Administration, and the EPA, each labeled with where it came from and when. A "how we calculate" page lays out the methodology in one place, and the footer is plain that the tools produce planning estimates, not financial advice.

TrueDriveCost is the seventh site in the Modern Site Builders network, a portfolio of independently operated, free utility sites built and run in public by David Miles. It joins RemodelCalculators, which now offers more than 140 free home-remodeling calculators, and FigureMoney, a personal-finance calculator suite — the auto-cost cluster of which first proved the demand that TrueDriveCost now serves on its own.

The site is live and all calculators are working today.
