"Menopause" on the jar doesn't mean fragrance-free, 23-cream label check finds
eTradeWire News/10851822
Nine of 23 moisturizers recommended for menopausal skin are scented, including both creams with "menopause" in the name. Menopausal Skincare has published the full list and a free tool that flags fragrance in any ingredient list.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - eTradeWire -- Heating season is here, indoor air is drying out, and women in perimenopause and menopause are shopping for richer moisturizers. Many will reach for a jar that says "menopause." A label check by Menopausal Skincare suggests that word says nothing about whether a cream is gentle.
The independent publisher read the full US ingredient lists of 23 creams that come up in search results and beauty lists for menopausal skin. Nine of the 23 (39%) are scented: eight list fragrance or parfum, and one gets its scent from rose flower oil. Both creams with "menopause" in the product name list fragrance, and both also list alcohol.

The other 14 list no fragrance at all, and several are plain drugstore staples. In one case the same cream is sold in a scented and a fragrance-free version, so the box a shopper picks up matters.
Skin often gets drier around menopause. The American Academy of Dermatology advises fragrance-free products for dry skin, and the US Food and Drug Administration notes that products labeled "unscented" can still contain fragrance added to mask other smells.
"A menopause label tells you who a cream is marketed to, not what's in it," the Menopausal Skincare editors said. "Turn the jar around. Fragrance or parfum usually sits near the end of the ingredient list, and scent oils such as rose oil count too."
To make that check faster, Menopausal Skincare has released a free ingredient checker. Paste any ingredient list and it flags fragrance, named fragrance allergens, essential oils and other ingredients that can bother dry, reactive skin. Nothing leaves the browser.

This was a label read, not a skin test. It reflects each brand's US ingredient list on October 19, 2026, and formulas change. It is general information, not medical advice; itch or a rash that lasts, spreads or keeps someone awake is worth raising with a clinician.
