Providing a local option for high school swimmers

Free East Valley Swim Team evaluations now open for Queen Creek Aquatic Center training sessions

With high school swim season now completed, the East Valley Swim Team (EVST) is now scheduling evaluations at the Queen Creek Recreation and Aquatic Center for area high school students who would like to continue their swim training.

"We're pleased to be able to offer a local opportunity for high school swimmers to maintain a training regimen in the off-season," EVST Head Coach Maria Hass said.

Evaluation spots are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested parents should contact EVST at 480-547-1623 to schedule a free evaluation for their swimmer. More information about the team is available at www.EastValleySwimTeam.com.

"We want to help these young swimmers stay sharp during the coming year while also benefiting from our advanced stroke technique training that will help them find ways to improve their performance," Hass said.

Free EVST evaluations are also available for younger swimmers 5-17 years old for both the developmental and competitive groups, Hass said. Team practices are held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. weekdays at the Town of Queen Creek Recreation & Aquatic Center, 22343 E. Ryan Rd. Private lessons are also available.

"Our team's stroke development program is both advanced and accelerated, obtaining positive results more quickly than most other swim programs," Hass said. "That saves parents time and money."

Since its founding in 2021, EVST has become one of the most successful swimming programs in the Valley thanks to its emphasis on teaching superior stroke technique. Many of its swimmers have reached elite level status or become Arizona State Champions as early as age 8 after completing EVST's Level 1-8 program.

Coach Maria has more than 30 years of coaching internationally, in Colorado and Arizona with all levels of swimmers. She has coached countless Arizona State finalists, National Qualifiers, and even an Olympian swimmer overseas. Her son Leo Hass also coaches for EVST and has served as a high school head coach and club level coach in the Valley for several years.
