Founder of HispanicsVote.org throws her support behind Mark Cisneros, Iowa's first Latino legislator

"Mark proves that representing your community isn't about where you started," says Casanova
DES MOINES, Iowa - eTradeWire -- Today, Barbara Casanova, National Secretary & Florida Chair of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly (RNHA), and founder of HispanicsVote.org, announced her personal support for Mark Cisneros, Iowa's first Latino legislator.
"Muscatine is home to one of the largest Latino communities in Iowa, and its residents deserve a representative who understands their values: faith, family, hard work, and the dream of owning something of your own. Mark lives those values, and he carries them into the Statehouse for every family in his district, whatever their background," shared Barbara Casanova.
Mark Cisner is the son of Mexican immigrants; he grew up in Los Angeles County and began his career with the Los Angeles Park Ranger Division. In 2008, he and his wife, Bridget, moved to Muscatine, where they raised six children, owned and ran small businesses, and where Mark worked as a commercial truck driver. In 2020, Muscatine voters made him the first Latino ever elected to the Iowa Legislature.

He has never treated that distinction as the whole of his service. Mark has served on the Iowa State University Extension board, the Muscatine Center for Non-Profits, and the Muscatine County Judicial Magistrate Appointing Commission. He has served as co-chair of the Muscatine County Republican Party and as a church council member. Wherever he serves, he shows up for his neighbors.
At the Capitol, he has focused on the issues he promised: strong schools, affordable health care, good jobs, and a lighter tax burden on families and small businesses. He has also shown he will think for himself. When a major education bill came to the floor, Mark was one of nine Republicans who voted against it, rather than simply following the party line.
Ms. Casanova added, "Mark's story is the best civics lesson a young Iowan could ask for. He didn't come from political royalty. He came from hard work, family and faith, and his neighbors trusted him with their voice. I hope his re-election inspires the next generation to step up and serve."
