PHILADELPHIA - eTradeWire -- Acclaimed science fiction author Peter Darrach announces the highly anticipated publication of The Cleopard and Other Tales from the Second Skin Universe. Adding the fifth book in the sprawling Second Skin Sequence, this marks the very first publishing of this entirely original content, now available globally on Amazon.

Breaking from the sweeping interplanetary arcs of his previous four novels, Darrach pivots to a high-octane collection of eight original short stories designed to sprint through unexplored corners of his deeply realized, multi-layered continuum. These tales serve to illuminate hidden corners of the Second Skin Universe, diving into the rich back-stories and side-narratives of beloved characters while introducing a compelling new cast. The Cleopard and Other Tales broadens the cosmic horizon with multi-layered conflict spanning Earth, the Mars Orbital Smelting Array (MOSA), Jupiter's frozen moon Europa, and the mysterious space known as the Vort. Readers will follow Xane, a destitute virtual person working as a waiter in San Francisco, whose fortunes dramatically pivot upon encountering the enigmatic Cleopard. The stakes escalate across the solar system as master manipulator Bigsey Kalmineros endangers Red Planet News reporter Semiramis Sparrow on Callisto, while Martian security forces race to contain a volatile hydrogen leak and an aggressive biohazard at Red Acre Farms.

"Writing short stories feels like running a set of sprints," notes author Peter Darrach. "Typically, I begin with no more than a seed of a story that puts the participants in jeopardy. It then becomes my task to extract them while strictly respecting the established rules of the Second Skin Universe."

Steeped in the series' core logic - where human consciousness can merge with robotic carapaces, and alien prosthetic "second skins" endow humans with extraordinary capabilities - this anthology provides meticulous narrative scaffolding that rewards long-time fans. However, newcomers need not fear the vacuum: Darrach has thoughtfully appended curated explanatory notes to the end of each tale, ensuring an accessible entryway into his complicated continuum.

Featuring vibrant cover art and layout design by celebrated artist Zamzam, The Cleopard and Other Tales from the Second Skin Universe stands as a masterfully structured artifact of modern space opera.
