Women military veterans are the fastest-growing population of all military veterans in the United States. Melissa A. Washington, CEO and founder of Women Veterans Alliance, recognizes that the experiences of women veterans transitioning to civilian life isn't always a smooth path.

"15,000 women transition out of the military each year," said Washington "and many experience difficulty during this time. They describe a lack of confidence, discrimination, isolation, a loss of community and identity."

These experiences can lead to further isolation, depression, homelessness, loss of a job or business, and suicide.

"This is not ok," Washington said. "We believe every woman veteran, and her family, deserves to be seen, honored, and supported with the same utmost care and respect that she gave her nation, that she gave you and me."
