Winners Announced for 2023 International Juried Exhibition at The Center for Contemporary Art
eTradeWire News/10717501
BEDMINSTER, N.J. - eTradeWire -- The Center for Contemporary Art's 2023 International Juried Exhibition is on view now through March 3, 2023.
Juror Esteban del Valle selected 53 pieces from 773 entries from 269 artists from across the United States and Canada, Dubai, London, and Moscow. The quality of the entries was very high, and made for a challenging task for the juror. New Jersey artists selected for the exhibition are: Ry An (Blairstown), Christine Barney (Jersey City), Elise Dodeles (Lambertville), Jacqueline Buck Donadeo (Manasquan), Steven Epstein (Edison), Lenore Knoller (Basking Ridge), Deborah L. Morris (Jersey City), Charles Mulford (Chatham), Jeanine Pennell (Stockton), Angela Pilgrim (Newark), DeAnn L. Prosia (Morristown), Christine Sauerteig-Pilaar (Oak Ridge), Timothy Simmons (Newark), Barbara Wallace (Elizabeth), and Andrew Werth (Princeton Junction).
Three artists were awarded cash prizes:
First Prize: Linda Whitney (Valley City, ND)
Second Prize: Jo Cosme (Seattle, WA)

Third Prize: Kevin Arnold (Rudy, AR)
When speaking about his selection process Esteban del Valle wrote, "When it came to choosing the final works and the awards for this exhibition, I was drawn to artwork that reflected a deep interest and dedication to the medium accompanied by a strong sense of creative ambition. Creative ambition can manifest in different ways from inventing complex systems, to pushing the boundaries of material and skill, to the desire to use the medium to address content much larger than the artist themselves. The selected artworks displayed this sensibility while infusing the medium and/or process with their content, resulting in strong works that often opened up a broader conversation about the world we live in.
Juror Esteban del Valle is a Brooklyn, NY based interdisciplinary artist originally from Chicago, IL. He received his M.F.A. from RISD and has exhibited his work and produced murals internationally. His work has been featured in various publications. Del Valle has been the recipient of several visual arts residencies and fellowships including the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, the Fine Arts Work Center, Smack Mellon Artist Studio Program, and The Toby Devan Lewis Fellowship
