Wildlife Monitoring Equipment Essential For Conservation and Research
eTradeWire News/10777805
CLEVELAND - eTradeWire -- Grant Data Logger for Animal Skin Temperature Measurement
CAS DataLoggers provides wildlife monitoring equipment for conservation and research, including temperature data loggers with alarming capability for zoos, shelters, universities, and other organizations. Here are some examples:
Monitoring External and Internal Temperature
Temperature probes with portable data loggers monitor animals continuously. The Grant SQ16 logger has 2 alarms and stores up to 200M readings. Transfer data via USB.
Monitoring Temperature & Humidity Conditions Inside Burrows, Dens, and Other Living Spaces
In Ojai, California, we provided an environmental monitoring solution for a turtle sanctuary. To avoid time-consuming direct animal temperature monitoring, we captured temperature and humidity data from burrows using a wireless solution. This streamlined the process and ensured the animals' well-being.
CAS provided the sanctuary with 2 T&D RTR-503B Wireless Temperature and Humidity Data Loggers and a T&D RTR-500BW Wireless Base Station. The loggers were installed in the ceiling of burrows, connected to probes with 1-meter cables. The compact design allows for easy repositioning when needed. The loggers in the caves take accurate readings every hour and send the data to a remote base station. They are durable for long-term underground survival.

Meanwhile, the alarm levels continually monitor all this data for any temperature or humidity reading outside the user-set safety limits. In the event of any value going out of specification, these alarms send warning emails directly to the owner's cell phone so he can contact volunteers and take immediate preventative measures.
This wireless monitoring and alarming solution now saves the shelter a lot of work and worry. The owner explained: "I think the equipment's just what I need. I want to share this with people who have Sulcatas so they know if their environment is safe for the animals, and that'll work no matter where you're keeping them."
Monitoring Bat Migration
In another wildlife monitoring equipment setup, CAS DataLoggers set up data logging systems to monitor bats in a wind turbine sitting area. Specialized instruments captured and classified bat calls, with a Modbus interface for data offloading. A dataTaker DT82I datalogger with a cell modem automatically downloaded and uploaded the data, powered by solar and battery.
