A retailer can introduce it with a simple question: "You've tried Colombian coffee. You've tried Ethiopian coffee. Have you ever tried Haitian coffee?"

The social-impact story adds another dimension, but Singing Rooster believes the product must come first. Customers may initially be intrigued by Haiti. They return because they enjoy the coffee.

That distinction matters.

Haitian coffee shouldn't earn shelf space because consumers feel sorry for Haiti. It should earn shelf space because it's good coffee. Its origin, farmer relationships and economic impact make the cup even more meaningful.
