This Highly Anticipated Virtual Event Connects Vendors to Opportunities

NEW YORK - eTradeWire -- NYC Department of Sanitation and Waste Management (NYSE), the leading provider of environmental solutions in North America, announced its upcoming 4th Annual M/WBE Supplier Summit. The virtual event will be conducted Tuesday, January 26, 2021, from 10 a.m to 11 a.m.
Waste Management takes great pride in its supportive and ongoing 25-year relationship with the City of New York. In 2018, the company committed to the city Department of Sanitation to spend at least $50 million with M/WBE vendors and businesses by 2038. WM already has spent over $10 million with M/WBE business in its regional Greater Mid-Atlantic operating area.
With many businesses experiencing economic hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic, WM and the city Department of Sanitation have expanded this year's forum to include opportunities in three of the company's operating areas, the Greater Mid-Atlantic Area, which includes the NYC, New Jersey, Delaware, and eastern Pennsylvania, it's New England Area, which includes New York State, and its operating region that includes Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and western Pennsylvania.

The progressive and diversified event agenda will open with an introduction by Jim VanWoert, WM Director of Disposal Operations. Vendors then will have the opportunity to select and attend simultaneous 15-minute workshops specific to WM opportunities, Department of Sanitation opportunities, and the Department's M/WBE S.O.A.R (Sustainable Operations and Readiness Resources) program. This initiative enables Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises to easily identify Department procurement opportunities and take advantage of capacity building initiatives.
John Velandia, Waste Management's Supplier Diversity Manager, will explain how businesses can become WM suppliers.
The program will conclude with a roundtable discussion moderated by Carmen Perez, WM's Greater Mid-Atlantic Area Director of Finance/Business Partner. Panelists will include WM's Greater Mid-Atlantic Area Vice President Rafael Carrasco, WM Vice President for Western Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland Ronald Ward, and New York City Department Sanitation Chief Diversity Officer Kevin Wells.
"This is a golden opportunity to secure and do business with Waste Management and the New York City Department of Sanitation," Mr. Wells said of next week's program.
