Volunteers Making an Impact at Home

Making a difference through a simple act of kindness - a greeting card!

ATLANTA - eTradeWire -- Founded in 1997, the internationally known non-profit, Second Wind Dreams® is most recognized for their Dream Programs and evidence-based Virtual Dementia Tour®. However, the organization has several other programs that help spread joy to elders while changing the perception of aging. One of these programs is Cards of Light. This program offers volunteers the opportunity to send greeting cards to elders all year long. Cards of Light is enormously popular as volunteer groups of all sizes and ages can participate from any location.

When the news broke that elder care communities were prohibiting visitors inside due to COVID-19, volunteers immediately began searching for remote ways to help and keep residents, as well as, staff connected and supported. Cards of Light provides an answer.

Second Wind Dreams launched their Cards of Light Luminary Challenge asking volunteers to create and/or sign greeting cards (25 from individuals/families and 50 from groups/corporate partners). The non-profit has a list of elder care community partners that have confirmed participation and receipt of incoming mail. As volunteers sign up for the Challenge, Second Wind Dreams provides them with a contact and mailing address. Volunteers are also encouraged to share their photo and acceptance of the Challenge on social media.
