Representative Harris, recently named as the new Democratic Whip of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (first African-American to serve as whip since Rep. K. Leroy Irvis in the 1970's), has championed several issues as an elected official of the 186th Legislative District, including his notable initiative with getting Pennsylvania Clean Slate signed into law. A first in the nation, the legislation allows automatic sealing of records for second- or third-degree misdemeanor offenses that included a less than two-year prison sentence if a person has been free from convictions for 10 years, as well as sealing of criminal history records related to charges that resulted in non-convictions.  Relevant to Rep. Harris, Assemblymember Bichotte's advocacy centers on providing resources on affordable housing and home ownership, financial literacy of her communities, economic development, public safety initiatives and better relationships with law enforcement to name a few.  "I am greatly humbled to be honored by the League of 1789, whose efforts at highlighting diversity and inclusion are of great importance now more than ever," states Bichotte. "This is an honor not just for myself but for the sacrifices of our ancestors and for all our youth as we work to mold our community to the pinnacle of diversity that we know it to be. As the first Haitian-American elected official in New York City, I will continue to advocate for inclusion, equity, and protection of civil rights for all."
