The HandHeld Project Presents "Create with a Cop"

Sandblast Music & Arts Festival

McCormick Park, Duvall, WA

July 20, 21st 2-4pm

"Create with a Cop" brings police officers together with local communities -at the easel- to explore arts and creativity together. For the 25th annual Sandblast Music and Arts Festival, The HandHeld Project will be hosting a pop-up art lab where participants will join with officers to make molds of their hands together and cast them in plaster resulting in one of a kind sculptures.

Focusing on building positive connections through touch, this is the 3rd year that The HandHeld Project has worked with police departments and communities in both Seattle and Chicago. In 2018, The HandHeld Project partnered with the Redmond Police Department to host a similar casting project and is pleased to announce a collaboration with Duvall Police Department for this very special event. All ages are welcome to attend! This project is supported by King County 4 Culture, Duvall Foundation for the Arts, and Duvall Police Department.

Sherri Gamble, founder of The HandHeld Project, is a local plaster artist. She has been creating decorative plaster surfaces in schools, homes, and businesses professionally since 2006.

"As a plaster artist, I get to be a channel for helping people capture moments, no matter if it's in a hospice room, police station, classroom, or in the quiet magic of nature. I came into plaster self-taught. One evening after work, using my bedroom walls as a canvas, I fell in love. A simple can of venetian plaster got me hooked on this ancient trade. 12 years later, I've made my marks on walls and am blessed to inspire to people make theirs on surface and in form. My first call was in 2015 for a family whose Mom was passing away. I took a deep breathe, packed up my plaster art lab, and worked at the bedside to capture her and her daughter's hands. That is when I started to understand the importance of using my passions and gifts towards humanity. Plaster is a medium through which shiny veneers are brought to light and a unifying way of bringing people together to radically celebrate the simple act of being human. " – Sherri Gamble
