Teacher and Students Partner to Release True-Crime Book
eTradeWire News/10837486
ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. - eTradeWire -- Jan-Carol Publishing, Inc., of Johnson City, Tennessee, is thrilled to announce the release of Driven by Rage, Fueled by Diesel: The Forgotten Victims of the Tennessee Highway Hunters, written by the Elizabethton High School Tennessee Student Investigators.
Sociology teacher, Alex Campbell, and the students in his 2025-2026 class spent their school year learning from case files rather than textbooks, and in doing so, have accomplished something truly remarkable.
"Instead of memorization and tests, they learned from the most demanding teacher of all—real life, studying unsolved cases and lives that felt far too familiar. When they discovered their picturesque state of Tennessee held a disproportionate number of highway serial killers, they began asking why, transforming themselves into investigators, researchers, and writers driven by victims too often overlooked. This book is a glimpse of their work and their transformation, filled with facts but even more questions.

How many more killers, how many more victims, and how many more families left wondering? I could not be prouder of these students, and if the victims could see this work, I believe they would be proud too." —Alex Campbell
Campbell and students honored the release of the book on May 18th at a press conference in Elizabethton, TN. Now that their book is available, Campbell and students hope to keep the conversations going. "We hope this book spurs law enforcement and media to find other victims," Campbell said. "Is anybody looking for them? I don't really think they are. There are families that don't know who's responsible. There's still work left to be done."
