WASHINGTON - eTradeWire -- They distributed items to people who are homeless. Their goal, as atheists, is to help their community—to give back. The distributioned occurred on the sidewalk in front of Progress Place, 8106 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

AHHDC is a group of atheist volunteers, but they cannot be just atheists. They are citizens. They want to help, to give, to learn, and to receive. There is nothing to stop them, as atheists, from believing in basic human goodness and wanting to nurture that. They have ethics; they have moral compasses. They are integral parts of our society and are proud to be your family, your friends, and your neighbors, and they want to help our community.

The goal of AHHDC is to provide small toiletry items (travel size) needed daily (soap, nail clippers, towelettes, socks, combs, small shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush and small paste, etc.) to people who are homeless and who travel primarily by foot. They distribute to those who cannot carry regular-sized items everywhere they go. The items are for people living on the street, out of a tent or car, or out of a shelter.

The AHHDC set up a table for 3-4 hours on a sidewalk where homeless people passed by and distributed items. The event distributed toiletries to 75 clients.
