NEW YORK - eTradeWire -- The current crisis, consequence of Covid-19, has forced different destinations and their tourism boards, to be creative in the strategies to reactivate tourism, seek alliances and generate new and better initiatives for tourism in each one of Mexico's destinations.

Tourism Ministers of the states of Yucatan, Quintana Roo and Campeche, have been working on a joint effort to promote the Yucatan Peninsula as a single destination before the current contingency. As world travelers do not distinguish political or geopolitical divisions, this strategy seeks to project the Peninsula as a single tourist offer for the international market.

This joint venture began at FITUR in Madrid 2019 and from that time to the date, several actions have been implemented in these destinations, but the current situation has led Quintana Roo and Yucatan to strengthen this alliance on international health and security matters.

Just a week ago, the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) granted Yucatan the Travel Safety Stamp for the adoption of new protocols to protect travelers health, while days before, Quintana Roo received this same Safety Stamp, thus reinforcing the union of the Mexican southeastern states for tourist attraction and economic reactivation.

The technical teams of the Ministry of Tourism of Yucatan and the Ministry of Tourism of Quintana Roo, led by Michelle Fridman and Marisol Vanegas respectively, analyzed the procedures of the Good Sanitary Practices Certificate of Yucatan and the Certification in Sanitary Protection and Prevention in Tourist Facilities of Quintana Roo, agreeing to standardize the criteria, committing to combine actions for the strengthening of both certificates, considering as main opportunities the technological exchange, the cooperative development of training programs and constant evaluation for the benefit of tourism service companies.

Both destinations will unify their protocols to those established by the WTTC, approved by the Secure Travel Stamp, as part of the 12 destinations in the world that received this certified seal.

During these meetings, more than 300 application criteria for all tourism companies were reviewed, with a coincidence of more than 85% of the evaluation items.

Michelle Fridman, Minister of Tourism of the Yucatan state mentioned - for travelers, the different certifications from both States are a matter of great importance, as well as the standards that tourism companies offer as a guarantee for their experience and safety. Tourists do not plan a trip considering the geopolitical divisions between the states, they see all the region as one and that is why the concept of the "Yucatan Peninsula" was created; to generate promotion, connectivity and training strategies, and now, also of approved health certifications; to provide similar experiences in both destinations without removing the individuality of each State.
