CONGRESSMAN ELIJAH CUMMINGS: HONORING HIS LEGACY

BY ANH LE

I mourn the passing of Congressman Elijah Cummings.

I remember his exceptional leadership, and tough questioning of witnesses who appeared before the House Oversight Committee that he chaired, and his relentless pursuit to hold the occupant of the White House and his administration accountable.

The American people and I will always remember Rep. Cummings' call and demand for the release of the Mueller Report unredacted, and his holding accountable the attorney general for his efforts to deceive the American people in his summary of the Mueller Report.

Rep. Cummings stood up for the American people, for the values of truth and justice and equality for our nation, and for the principle that no one is above the law.

He cared deeply about Baltimore, our nation, and our world.

Congressman Cummings' leadership and legacy follows in the footsteps of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, the first African American woman elected to Congress and the first African American to run for President of the United States.

Let us honor Congressman Elijah Cummings' legacy in our lives, and in our communities across the nation.
