Provectus Environmental Products, Inc. Issued Patent Regarding Ex Situ Ferrate Generation
eTradeWire News/10596000
CHICAGO - eTradeWire -- The United States Patent Office has issued patent US 10,836,648 B2 to Mueller et al. (James Mueller, Dennis Grub, Michael Scalzi) regarding EX SITU FERRATE GENERATION on 17 November 2020.
This technology will provide a means for continuous or batch generation of produced solution that contains multiple reactive oxidant species (ROS) such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), sulfate radicals (SO4•), super oxide (O2•), hydroxyl radicals (OH•), and uniquely ferrate species including Fe IV, V, and VI. These ROS will destroy organic compounds, sterilize and can oxidize inorganics and a wide range of targeted contaminants in distressed water (e.g., drinking water, process water, wastewater, industrial process streams/waters, municipal process streams/waters, landfill leachate, sewage/septic systems, bilge waters, drilling fluids, mine effluents).

This technology will allow for expansion in the soil and groundwater remediation market for Provectus Environmental Products as well as open opportunities in a far-reaching number of markets previously not participated in by Provectus. Potential customers of this technology will find a process that provides chemistries that are up to 50% more reactive than traditional water treatment chemistries (i.e. chlorine, permanganate, or ozone). This technology also has additional benefits to serve not only as an oxidizer but also as a disinfectant and a coagulant thereby reducing the needed footprint and chemical loading required for distressed water treatment.
This process couples currently patented technology utilized by Provectus in soil/groundwater remediation with additional constituents with 100% recycled content. These materials are strongly alkaline with high surface area and rich in iron and other inorganic metals that are highly oxidized having been formed at temperatures ranging from 900 to 1300 degrees Celsius. The use of this material avoids the need for additional pH buffers and ferrate stabilizers.

Extensive research has been done worldwide proving the effectiveness of ferrate chemistry in the treatment of distressed waters. The patented approach presented here addresses and solves the issue of high cost and reagent instability associated with mechanical ferrate generators. This will allow for an economical full-scale option for those needing to treat process water streams.
For additional information on the technology or its application, please contact Troy Lizer with Provectus at (330) 284-7428 or troy.lizer@provectusenv.com.
