Project: Humanity Hosts Event For Homeless Youth Awareness Month
eTradeWire News/10786617
The 7-hour digital "drop-in" will feature company founders, prominent artists and youth
TORONTO - eTradeWire -- TORONTO, ON - Project: Humanity is thrilled to announce a 7-hour live broadcast event – The Drop-In – to bring awareness to homeless youth in Toronto during November which is International Homeless Youth Awareness Month. The Drop-In will also launch Project: Humanity's End-of-Year Fundraiser and promote the company's long-standing innovative arts programming.
The Drop-In takes place on November 13th from 10:30am-5:30pm EST and will be broadcast online (Facebook, Instagram, Youtube) for the public. It will feature live interviews, clips from our 15 years of community work, and performances by prominent affiliated artists like Peter Katz, Sarah Lazar and Khari Wendell McClelland. The event aims to celebrate the impact of our work with youth-on-the-margins and the power of using the arts as a critical tool to reduce isolation and support emotional wellbeing.
"The sensitive nature of our work in the shelters means it isn't making headlines." says Executive Director Dan Chapman-Smith "The 9 shelters we partner with in the GTA is where we make our biggest impact and where the majority of our time and energy goes. And we want people to get to know this work better, how it's changing lives."

This event comes at an unfortunate moment for youth in Toronto given that SKETCH Working Arts, a community arts enterprise working with young artists and arts leaders on-the-margins aged 16-29, has shuttered its doors after 27 years.

10:30-11:30 - A conversation with leaders of homeless shelters in Toronto, moderated by Project: Humanity's Executive Director Daniel Chapman-Smith
11:30-12:00 - A reading of the award-winning "The Middle Place" read by youth and staff from our partner organization Youth Without Shelter – a play created from interviews in the shelter.
10:30-11:30 - A conversation with the founders and leaders of Project: Humanity, including Artistic Director, award winning playwright and director, and 2023 Canadian Artist-of-the-Year (Globe and Mail) Andrew Kushnir
