As pet care facilities prepare to reopen their doors, The Dog Gurus, the #1 in staff training and business consulting group for the pet care industry, is sharing proactive tips on how to safely and confidently reopen.

NEW YORK - eTradeWire -- After months of battling the Covid-19 pandemic, the economy is starting to bounce back as shelter-in-place orders continue to lift across the country.

"Many pet care business owners may feel excited and a sense of financial relief as they begin to move forward and reopen their business," says Robin Bennett, CPDT-KA and Co-Founder of The Dog Gurus, "At the same time, this can be an overwhelming process, as owners and staff try to figure out their facility's new normal. We feel strongly that pet care businesses need to be proactive rather than reactive!"

Maintaining a safe workplace and abiding by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) guidelines should be a top priority. In addition to this, The Dog Gurus is providing three steps to help facilities get back on track while still following safety measures in order to keep people safe and reduce fear.

Start inviting clients back NOW! If you haven't fully opened, begin a wait list for routine services now. This is a great way to have a list of clients ready to ensure you can achieve as high of an occupancy as possible.

Celebrate the "new normal!" Create special activities to celebrate a return to "new normal" and bring people back. Put together several ready-to-go activities that you can roll out as soon as openings are announced. Use scarcity (limited space and timing) to fill all your spots for any activity you create. Give people a reason to return.

Plan one-time events! Create special one-time events to encourage lodging. This will be the last service to come back fully so create reasons for people to bring their dog in for overnight stays. Encourage owners to get their dogs back in the routine of staying overnight to prep for the holidays.

"By taking a positive and proactive approach, you will have the ability to tackle these new reopening challenges head," says Susan Briggs, MA, CPACO and Co-Founder of The Dog Gurus, "With some creativity and determination, you can get people and pets back in the door!"
