Preston City Council embraces cloud GIS to fulfil compliance and accessibility requirements
eTradeWire News/10792991
Cadcorp SIS 9.1 in the cloud GIS enables modernisation of mapping services
STEVENAGE, U.K. - eTradeWire -- Preston City Council (PCC) has the Cadcorp Geographic Information System (GIS) deployed throughout the council and is accessible to the public via the council's website. Following a service review, the team at PCC decided to migrate to a Cadcorp cloud hosted and managed environment.
As part of the cloud migration, PCC selected a range of spatial data services to streamline their operations. The Cadcorp Spatial Database Service and Cadcorp Ordnance Survey MasterMap Topographic Vector Service give them quick and easy access to the latest vector OS MasterMap® Topography Layer. The Cadcorp Basemap to DXF Exporter option will allow Cadcorp SIS WebMap users to quickly and easily extract OS MasterMap in structured DXF format from the organisation's spatial database. Cadcorp SIS ETL will manage and control the flow of data between files, databases, and servers and will rationalise spatial data management, providing synchronised data for the cloud data service. Cadcorp will manage the software and Ordnance Survey® mapping updates on their behalf.

This project allows PCC to access the latest version of Cadcorp SIS Desktop and SIS WebMap, providing the council with a host of new functionality as well as improved security and administration access.
Andy Heywood, Interim Assistant Director (Head of ICT and Customer Contact) at PCC, commented: "Easily accessible and user-friendly GIS and web mapping is essential for Preston City Council. The Cadcorp cloud implementation meets that requirement; our community of users will benefit immensely from this project."
GIS technology in the cloud can bring significant benefits to local authorities and other public sector organisations without GIS-dedicated resources. It has the potential to reduce both the overall cost of ownership and the administration overhead of keeping software and data up to date. Cadcorp is an approved GIS supplier on G-Cloud. Further details about Cadcorp cloud services are available here: https://cdcp.io/cloud-host
