Pipeline Ag Safety Alliance Announces Heightened Efforts to Help Reduce Utility Damage

eTradeWire News/10561338
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - eTradeWire -- The Pipeline Ag Safety Alliance (PASA) announces public awareness program enhancements to the ongoing mission to mitigate the risk of utility damage across the United States. PASA continues to work closely with the National Association of County Agricultural Agents (NACAA) to promote safe digging to farmers and ranchers across the nation.

PASA is streamlining its approach to agriculture damage prevention with the addition of new regional targets. Specifically, PASA is communicating with states where rural activities such as drain tiling and sugarcane harvesting take place. The identified states will receive tailored safety messages created for their particular region to reduce infrastructure hits and near-misses. PASA continues to focus efforts on protecting all utilities from contacting gas transmission and distribution lines, hitting telecommunication cables, and damaging water and sewer systems. These efforts include messages aimed to protect those working on the farm from contact with overhead and buried electric cables as well. PASA will continue providing education on the basics of safe digging, but with an increased focus on geographical locations and agricultural activities that program members deem crucial to reducing damages and increasing safety.

Coordinating in-person safety presentations at training and educational events, including the distribution of the collaborative PASA Farm & Ranch Excavation Safety Guide, provides NACAA members with unique tools to use in their personal communications with agricultural professionals. The Guide includes articles written by One Call center representatives, utility operators, extension professionals, and damage prevention specialists.
