Piano School of NYC Announces New Board of Directors President and New Board Members

NEW YORK - July 16, 2018 - eTradeWire -- The Piano School of NYC, a non-profit, award-winning music school, is pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Karpowich as the new President of their Board of Directors. The new board of directors consists of 9 members including President Karpowich and 6 new directors: Debra Baxter, Walter K. Brown, Timothy Cowan, Valerie Drew, Justin Frazer, and Bill Holmes will be joining current board members Conor Grimes and Douglas Wood.

Founder, Vera Anselmo, states, "I am deeply honored to have Karen Karpowich as our Board President! Her talent, commitment, and expertise are invaluable to the Piano School of New York. Our newly expanded Board of Directors marks a new beginning for our organization to reach its full potential and help many students in New York gain access to music and piano education at local schools and organizations. I see every new director as an ambassador of our organization who can help us further our dreams, and achieve beyond the imaginable."

Karen Karpowich has been a leader in both the corporate and not for profit communities. She served as the Senior Vice President for two New York ad agencies: Scali, McCabe, Sloves and Ketchum Advertising as well as the Vice President for iVillage, the first women's internet company.

She is a Founding Trustee of The Way of The Rain: an arts, education, and environmental initiative. The group performed in Abu Dhabi, at The Salk Institute, and at Carnegie Hall with appearances by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Robert Redford, former Vice President Al Gore, and the Pulitzer Prize winning author N. Scott Momaday. In addition, she was President of the New York Women's Agenda, where she advocated for the economic empowerment of women and families.

Karpowich was CEO of St. George's Society and Executive Director for Financial Women's Association.  She served on the Board of New York Women in Communication, and was the first Board Chair for She's the First (a girl's education and empowerment organization).

"There is no doubt that growing up as a city kid on the LES and being part of an after-school arts program like PSNYC, had a profound effect on my later success as a business and community leader," said Karpowich.

President Karpowich and distinguished board members bring decades of experience in public relations, finance, marketing, education, advertising, cyber security, business, leadership, law, and music. Their goal is to reinforce and expand upon the mission of the Piano School of NYC to provide exposure to and availability of piano and music instruction to all. They plan to do this through scholarships and developing programs for inner city schools and students with disabilities.
