NWPC-VA Endorses Two Proven Leaders for Congress
eTradeWire News/10770033
Only 126 women currently serve in the U.S. House of Representatives; that's only 29%. There is no better time than now to add to that total. First, women candidates need to win competitive primary challenges to increase the number of women making it to the general election.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - eTradeWire -- The National Women's Political Caucus-Virginia (NWPC-VA), along with NWPC National, is excited to endorse Leslie Mehta (CD1) and Missy Cotter Smasal (CD2), for the upcoming Congressional Primary Election on June 18th.
Leslie Mehta is a civil rights attorney who became a fierce advocate for health issues after the tragic loss of her daughter, Brooke, who was fighting a rare genetic disorder. Ms. Mehta is committed to improving public schools, fighting for common sense gun laws, and is determined to make sure every citizen has the right to abortion care without government interference. Ms. Mehta is ready to put her advocacy skills to work for Virginia's 1st Congressional District.

Missy Cotter Smasal is a proud Navy Veteran, small business owner, and nonprofit executive director who is ready to get to work for the citizens of Hampton Roads. As a member of the bipartisan Chesapeake Bay Commission, she is dedicated to preserving the crucial watersheds in her district. She also understands that none of us is equal until we are all equal, supporting a resolution to recognize the Equal Rights Amendment in Virginia Beach. Ms. Smasal is a proven leader in her community, and she is ready to step forward and represent the citizens of Virginia's 2nd Congressional District.
"Leslie Mehta and Missy Smasal are excellent candidates who will fight for women's rights, especially reproductive health and freedom," said Katherine White, NWPC-VA Vice President of Endorsements. "Representation matters when it comes to passing policy that uplifts women's issues."
Early voting is happening now for the June 18th primary- we ask that voters choose Leslie Mehta and Missy Cotter Smasal to compete in the November 2024 Congressional Election.
