Book encourages open expression of grief through a powerful gallery of portraits

SEATTLE - eTradeWire -- AlyBlue Media announced the release of "Faces of Resilience," the first photo essay in a series focused on resilience.

Created by Barbara J. Hopkinson, of Newbury, Massachusetts, the essay features a stunning collection of photos designed to showcase both the commonality and individuality of human reactions to grief, loss and love.

Recently named Top Executive of the Year in Resilience After Loss by the International Association of Top Professionals, Hopkinson, who founded the nonprofit organization A Butterfly's Journey, began hosting mobile photo shoots around the nation in 2015. Featuring people who were grieving, each subject was invited to write something meaningful on his or her skin in memory of their loved one to portray a message or grief reaction.

Curated from thousands of photos taken around the nation, the top 200 were selected for "Faces of Resilience" to showcase how grief, love, and the human spirit are intertwined.

"The whole experience is cathartic for people. Taken by professional photographers including award-winning Patti Rae Miliotis, the photos are then emailed to each person not just as a keepsake, but as a visual reminder that the power of resilience lies within us all," said Hopkinson.

"It's our hope that this influential collection tells a story better than written words, and serves as an agent of change by stimulating conversations about the universal experience of surviving love and loss," says coauthor Lynda Cheldelin Fell, creator of the award-winning Grief Diaries series.

Hopkinson plans to take the photo shoot international this year and publish the photos in collections based on source, relationship, or loss types. For information about upcoming tour stops or to invite Faces of Resilience to your organization, email info@abutterflysjourney.org.
