New Major Bed Bug Class Action Lawsuit Against Marriott Hotels

eTradeWire News/10523745
Litigation is in Response to Allegedly Widespread Marriott Hotels Bed Bug Crisis

NEW YORK - eTradeWire -- NEW YORK, NY-- Victims of bed bugs at Marriott-owned hotels are urged to promptly contact organizers of a new major class action lawsuit against the Maryland-based hotelier. Organizers of the litigation believe it will not only provide significant compensation for many damaged individuals, but will also put pressure on Marriott to adopt industry-wide standards of bed bug prevention. It is alleged that Marriott properties have far more bed bug infestations because they skimp on prevention, and that the hotel chain has engaged in an extensive cover up of its systemic crisis-level bed bug problems. One of the organizers – The Marriott Hotels Bed Bug Survivors Association [MHBBSA] – has instituted a MarriottBedBugHotline to facilitate processing of the expected large number of respondents.

Terry Williams, Director of MHBBSA said: "We have been frankly shocked by what we've heard about Marriott's behavior. We believe that this class action litigation will be very successful in part because of what seems to be a blatantly bad faith approach by Marriott about its bed bug problems. We believe that large punitive damages may well be ordered not only because of what we believe to be Marriott's very inferior bed bug prevention methods, but also because of everything we've heard about their apparently extensive attempts to hide the severity of its bed bug problems."

Speculation about recent alleged crisis-level bed bug infestations at Marriott properties has been increasing as numerous organizations have joined together with The Squash Marriott Bed Bugs Alliance. The Alliance is launching a nationwide campaign to pressure Marriott to take a more responsible approach toward bed bugs, including meeting its demand that Marriott increase the amount of money it spends on bed bug prevention. The Squash Marriott Bed Bugs Campaign launches in July 2019. The MHBBSA is one of several organizations which has pledged active support for the campaign.

Another participating organization is The International Hotel Guests Protection Organization [IHGPO]. Casey Linden, Executive Director of IHGPO commented: "Bed bugs are not otherwise among our main concerns, but this bed bug emergency at Marriott has to be resolved. Through all our research and investigation, it is obvious that there are far more -- far, far more – bed bug infestations at Marriott-owned hotels than at other hotel chains."

The allegedly subpar Marriott bed bug prevention measures are believed to be resulting in strikingly frequent bed bug infestations throughout the Marriott-owned properties, including: Courtyard, Renaissance, JW Marriott, Autograph Collection, AC Hotels, SpringHill Suites, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Residence Inn and TownePlace Suites.
