National Center for Police Defense Applauds Verdict for Officer Alfred Flores
eTradeWire News/10821854
SAN ANTONIO - eTradeWire -- The Board of Directors of the National Center for Police Defense, Inc. (NCPD) expresses its full support and deepest appreciation for the verdict reached today in the criminal trial of former officers of the San Antonio Police Department. A Bexar County jury found Officer Alfred Flores, Officer Eleazar Alejandro and Officer Nathaniel Villalobos not guilty of all charges brought in connection with the June 23, 2023 incident resulting in the death of Melissa Perez.
As an organization committed to the defense, support and welfare of law enforcement officers in times of legal challenge, NCPD is proud to have stood with Officer Alfred Flores and his family throughout this rigorous legal process.
Officer Alfred Flores joined the San Antonio Police Department on September 8, 2008, and served nearly 15 years on the city's southwest side — as officer, detective and sergeant — before he was charged. After the incident, Officer Flores was confronted not only with the burden of serious criminal charges, but also with the personal, professional and emotional toll that such proceedings inevitably impose.

During that time, NCPD was honored to provide him and his family financial and emotional support. We provided support to him and his family during a precarious and scary time in their lives and provided financial assistance as well. We also offered moral and peer support to help Officer Flores and his loved ones as they navigated the public and legal scrutiny.
The not-guilty verdict affirms the principle that law enforcement officers acting in complex, split-second scenarios must be evaluated under the full context of their environment, training and threat perception. The case of Officer Flores serves as a reminder of the unique risks faced by those who serve and protect, and the critical importance of experienced advocacy and support when the line between duty and liability is tested. NCPD commends the jury's deliberation, and acknowledges the countless hours of preparation by defense counsel and supporting experts that enabled a just resolution.
