WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - eTradeWire -- Matthew Brickman is a Florida Supreme Court certified family and appellate mediator who has worked in the 15th and 19th Judicial Circuit Courts since 2009 and 2006 respectively. But what makes him qualified to speak on the subject of conflict resolution is his own personal experience with divorce.
On his divorce and paternity podcast, MediateThis! he discussed how a business and its assets may be split during a divorce and how the value of a business started during a marriage is determined.

Mr. Brickman gave examples where there is a distinct different between a divorcing couple who agrees upfront on the value of a business starting during the marriage and one who doesn't.
He used the example, "I did a divorce recently with a doctor who has a practice, they own the building, he's got employees, they generate money. The husband and the wife agreed to a value for the business and agreed to how she was going to be paid her equity interest in the business."
He went on to say, "If they had not done that on their own, they'd have to hire a business evaluator expert who would come in and say, okay, well this size of a business generating this revenue, costing this much to run, and they would go on to look at the entire business top to bottom."
