Mantua Community Unites for 8th Annual Fun Day: A Celebration of Spirit and Resilience
eTradeWire News/10775626
PHILADELPHIA - eTradeWire -- In a bold move to strengthen community-police relations, the 16th Police District is set to host its 8th Annual Promise Zone Community Fun Day on Friday, July 19, 2024. This free event, running from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the 39th & Olive Street Playground, showcases the department's unwavering commitment to community policing and public safety.
The event boasts an impressive array of activities designed to appeal to residents of all ages. Highlights include spirited basketball competitions, a vibrant children's village, and captivating performances by local artists. These activities are carefully curated to provide a platform for positive interactions between residents and law enforcement officers in a relaxed, enjoyable setting.
"This day is about more than just fun and games," explains NAC Coordinator Lorraine Gomez of Mount Vernon Manor CDC. "It's about breaking down barriers, building trust, and showing our community that we're here to serve."
In addition to fostering better community relations, the event has set an ambitious fundraising goal of $3,500. These funds will be used to purchase much-needed school supplies and sneakers for youth in the Mantua neighborhood, further demonstrating the organization's commitment to supporting local families and education.

"By investing in our youth, we're investing in the future of our community," Gomez adds. "We believe that providing these essential items can make a real difference in a child's academic journey and overall well-being."
The Community Fun Day is part of the broader Promise Zone initiative, a federal program that was designed to revitalize high-poverty communities through increased collaboration between local entities and the federal government. This event serves as a prime example of how such collaborations can yield tangible benefits for community members.
For those interested in contributing to the fundraising effort, donations can be made at www.mvmcdc.org/get-involved/donate/. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings the community one step closer to its goal.
For more information about the event or to inquire about volunteer opportunities, interested parties are encouraged to contact Lorraine Gomez at Mt Vernon Manor CDC at (215) 475-9492 or Officer Woodhouse at the 16th Police District at (215) 686-3160.
