Founder Launches Birthday Campaign to Fund Community Healthcare
RALEIGH, N.C. - eTradeWire -- This year, Galatians Community Health (GCH) founder Wanett Mims is making one request for her birthday: Help fund the fight to keep the community cared for.
"I don't need gifts. I need reinforcements to help us thrive," Mims said. "For my birthday, I'm asking you to help me fund care that doesn't give up on our patients."
There are over 1.19 million residents in Wake County, and nearly 9% are enrolled in Medicaid. That's approximately 106,000 individuals depending on underfunded coverage (U.S. Census Bureau, 2023, and NC DHHS, 2024). Most private practices limit or refuse Medicaid patients. GCH is among the minority of clinics that take them, and still, it's not enough to meet the growing need.
GCH stretches every dollar and does more with less, but even the strongest teams can't keep going without support.

With Medicaid patients making up the majority of their caseload, and many uninsured families also seeking care, Galatians Community Health remains one of the few clinics in Wake County committed to accepting those that most providers turn away. Most of the people GCH serves aren't trying to live on Medicaid. They're working, raising kids, and just trying to make it through the month.
"We could do more," Mims said. "We want to do more. But we need to survive first."
GCH is doing the work every day, showing up for patients others won't. And while decisions in Washington remain uncertain, GCH is building a local health system that works for real families right here in Wake County. Each year, Galatians Community Health serves thousands of patients, with more than 60% of their patient visits for preventive care, including well-child checks, reproductive health services, birth control, cancer screenings, and chronic condition management. With the rising number of uninsured and underinsured families in the region, demand continues to outpace funding, putting core services and long-term sustainability at risk.
