Larson-Danielson donates over 1,300 items to food pantries
eTradeWire News/10752477
LA PORTE, Ind. - eTradeWire -- On November 17, Larson-Danielson wrapped up a two-week long food drive. The goal was to collect 1,000 items to donate to local food pantries.
The employees of Larson-Danielson far exceeded expectations and collected 1,308 items, representing nearly 2,000 pounds of food, for donation. The items were divided up and delivered to First Fruits in Valparaiso and The Pax Center in La Porte.
"I am amazed by the generosity of our employees," said president, Brian Larson. "Their commitment to fighting food insecurity in our communities is a testament to their giving nature and compassion."
First Fruits
The volunteers who helped deliver to First Fruits on Friday were also given a tour of the farm, which currently serves 71 families from Kouts to Crown Point. Like other organizations, First Fruits collects donations of pantry and household items from local families and organizations. What sets this organization apart is its ability to offer fresh foods through its farm.

The Pax Center
On Saturday, November 18, Larson-Danielson delivered over 1,000 pounds of food to the Pax Center Food Pantry. The Pax Center is dedicated to keeping La Porte County well fed through a network of food pantries, community meals, and community gardens.

Addressing Food Insecurity
In Northwest Indiana, food insecurity is a critical challenge that needs attention. This issue, characterized by limited access to nutritious meals, affects approximately 100,000 residents – that's one in every six individuals in our community.
Notably, LaPorte, Starke, and St. Joseph counties report food insecurity rates surpassing the national average. Financially, the impact is equally concerning, with an immense annual food budget shortfall in these areas.
