VALDOSTA, Ga. - eTradeWire -- Rep. John LaHood (R-Valdosta) received a 2024 Champion of Georgia's Cities Award from the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA). The award, given at the end of every two-year legislative term to state legislators who actively support major GMA initiatives and goals, was presented to LaHood on September 5th in Valdosta.

During the 2023 and 2024 sessions of the General Assembly, Rep. LaHood, as Chairman of the House Governmental Affairs Committee, oversaw much of the proposed legislation affecting Georgia's cities.  He always considered the needs and concerns of Georgia's cities and the perspective of GMA before advancing legislation.  In particular, he worked closely with GMA and city officials to improve the service delivery negotiation process set out in House Bill 1407, and he heard and responded to the concerns of GMA and city officials about bills that preempted local zoning and planning authority.
