Kuester Management Group Shares Training Tips for HOA Board Members
eTradeWire News/10695034
Kuester Management Group reflects on the importance of ongoing professional development and education for HOA board members.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - eTradeWire -- The volunteers that make up the HOA board are tasked with significant responsibilities for keeping the association running smoothly and effectively. They must adhere to local, state, and federal laws, as well as the standards set by the governing documents. In addition, they must make decisions in the best interest of the overall community. Kuester Management Group has released a statement to the press regarding ways board members can stay on top of training to be more successful.
"One of the best things to do is talk to your HOA management company," says Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. "They may offer training and professional development courses of their own, or they may be able to refer you to a variety of resources. In addition, they can recommend topics that may be beneficial based on your association's needs and board member knowledge and experience."

Board members should evaluate the strengths of each director and what they bring to the table, says Kuester. Then look at where there are opportunities for improvement. There may be areas where the board is lacking in knowledge or experience and could benefit from training to become more well-rounded.
Looking at the HOA's annual goals and upcoming projects can also be valuable to take into consideration. What knowledge or skills are integral for achieving results? Could the board use more training on budgeting and financial management to control costs and improve savings? Project management to help oversee operations? Conflict resolution to handle problems more effectively?
The board can also turn to professional organizations such as the Community Associations Institute (CAI) to learn more about professional development opportunities. Local colleges or nonprofits may also offer training programs for the public on a wide range of topics. Board members can focus on areas where they personally could improve to become stronger leaders for the association.

"There is always more to learn," says Kuester. "Regular training and development can better position the HOA for success and help the board operate more efficiently and with a greater understanding of how their decisions impact the association and its members."
Kuester Management Group provides a wide range of supports and services to associations and board members to help them maximize their potential.
