Knobull Support Tools Smooth The Career Transition Process
eTradeWire News/10701649
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - eTradeWire -- Lynn Bentley, President of Knobull reported, "More American workers changed careers (not just jobs) in the past 18 months than at any time this century – and probably much longer ago. It has been reported that there has been a 45% increase in career transitions since January 2021.
With nearly twice as many open jobs as there were people to fill them, the unprecedented labor turnover rate reached its highest sustained level ever, yet the labor supply was insufficient to fill the open jobs that employers were desperate to fill. Yet, it still remains important that career searchers take the following critical steps."
Step One: Identify your new field.
Be more specific than just saying nonprofit or IT or finance. In which sector(s) would you want to work?
Step Two: Identify your possible occupation.

What would you like to do? Technology? Administrative? E-commerce? Marketing?
Step Three: Identify transferable kills.
This is your biggest challenge. Why should an employer take you from a different industry when there are candidates available from within? How can they be used there? Take inventory of those skills using a Knobull Guide and articulate them clearly.
Step Four: Which organizations need your skills?
This is matchmaking. Through job postings found on Indeed and – more importantly – networking, learn which organizations seem like good fits for you and vice versa.
Step Five: Be a "Career A.P.E."
A.P.E. stands for "Assess-Plan-Execute." Assess the needs of each organization and the qualifications for each position. Assess your skills and experience. Do your current skills and experience match up with what the market needs? Create a checklist. Where you match, great.

Step Six: Update your resume, letters, and profiles.
Prepare a resume that features your accomplishments and qualifications for the new field. Also, update your social media profiles to represent the future, not the past.
Step Seven: Target employers.
Targeting is one of the two most effective job search strategies. Once you know where you'd like to work, it's easier to (1) identify opportunities, and (2) give people meaningful answers.
Step Eight: Network. Build relationships.
Networking is the single most effective job search strategy and technique, responsible for landing far more than half of all jobs in America – across all employment sectors. Keep your network active, not just when you're job searching, but constantly.
Bentley concluded, "Time to execute. Career transition requires work, knowledge and support. Consider using Knobull career support tools to help you plan and execute your transition. An objective third party can be of enormous value. If not a coach, at least a trusted partner, friend, or colleague, but don't go it alone."
