Kids Supporting San Diego In A Time Of Crisis

Kids from Rock Church Step Up To Provide Encouragement And Support To A Hurting Community
SAN DIEGO - eTradeWire -- A group of Rock Church children's pastors and children helped to deliver 120 meals to the La Mesa Police Department. Days following riots, looting and protests, the kids were able to say thank you to their neighborhood heroes.
As adults were stepping up to support the needs of the San Diego community, kids wanted to do the same. But with the many guidelines and restrictions of social distancing, having children volunteer on projects was challenging. As a result, the Rock Church children's pastors started coming up with different projects and ideas for kids and families to do together.
The first was a "Thank You Poster" project for essential workers that was started to help families make a difference. Children and families created posters in their windows or garage doors for all to see. By recognizing their neighborhood heroes and essential workers it gives kids the opportunity to be inspired and express their thoughts and feelings. A simple "Thank You" goes a long way.

Rock Church Children's Pastor, Christina Paiva shares, "When the Taylor family from our church asked us what kids could do to help, we created the "Thank You Posters" project. As a parent to four children myself, I love having tangible ways to serve the community that we love. These "Thank You Posters" for essential workers are a great way for parents to talk to their kids about current events in a way that kids would understand."
The next project that kids and Rock Church families jumped into was the La Mesa clean up effort. On Saturday, May 30, a peaceful protest in response to the George Floyd tragedy ended with violent destruction of businesses and property with looting and fires, causing staggering damages to local businesses in La, Mesa, CA. The next morning, Rock Church families showed up with trash bags, brooms, and paint. Rock Church children, alongside their parents, prayed over buildings and business owners while walking the streets of La Mesa removing trash and debris.
