Annual community event comes amid Israel war with Hamas, follows weekend attack by Iran

NAPLES, Fla. - eTradeWire -- Amid the backdrop of Israel's ongoing war with the terror group Hamas and a weekend drone and missile attack on the Jewish state by Iran, an annual Holocaust Remembrance Day program returns to the Jewish Federation of Greater Naples in early May.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, May 5, from 4-5:15 p.m. at the Nina Iser Jewish Cultural Center, 4720 Pine Ridge Rd., Naples. The public is invited to this free community program, entitled, "Unto Every Person There is a Name."

The Day of Remembrance (Yom HaShoah in Hebrew) program includes a candle-lighting ceremony to honor the memories of the six million Jews killed by Nazis before and during World War II, along with remarks from local clergy and Holocaust survivors and their descendants.

The keynote speech will be delivered by Naples resident Abe Asli, who has worked both locally and globally to honor Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat credited with saving thousands of Jews during the war before being imprisoned and then dying in the former Soviet Union.

"The particular significance of this year's remembrance — where we say, 'Never again' to all forms of genocide — is impossible to overlook," said Jeffrey Feld, president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Naples. "We encourage the greater Naples community to join us in both paying tribute to the memory of those who perished while also standing in solidarity with Israel after the Oct. 7 terror attacks, the single largest loss of Jewish life in the world since the Holocaust."

In addition to the Jewish Federation of Greater Naples, event sponsors include the Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center, Temple Shalom, Beth Tikvah, GenShoah, Naples Jewish Congregation, Chabad of Naples and Jewish Congregation of Marco Island.
