IT workforce development nonprofit will locate office in historic Arlington, Virginia neighborhood

'MySecureKid' 501(C)(3) will establish headquarters in Arlington County's oldest African American neighborhood
ARLINGTON, Va. - eTradeWire -- A local nonprofit organization with a mission to build a pipeline of future IT and cybersecurity professionals while keeping kids safe on the Internet announced today that it is establishing its office in one of Arlington County's oldest historical African American neighborhoods.
"MySecureKid" has opted to locate its administrative headquarters in Green Valley, a historic community that traces its roots to 1844. That's when Sarah and Levi Jones built their home, pioneering what would become a thriving hub of cultural and economic activity for African Americans in Arlington County.
Originally called Green Valley, the neighborhood was also known as the Nauck community for many years before reverting to the original name. Despite facing a number of obstacles like widespread racism, discrimination, and Jim Crow laws, Green Valley residents persevered and fought for their right to experience a successful life. The current neighborhood board is hoping to extend this dream into the 21st century.

MySecureKid's founding director Quiana Gainey wants to be part of that work. Gainey is a veteran and female entrepreneur who just celebrated her 10-year anniversary as CEO of SecureTech360, LLC, an IT/cybersecurity company based in Northern Virgnia. She founded MySecureKid to train the next generation of minority IT and cybersecurity talent for future jobs while working on projects that keep kids safe on the Internet.
To her, locating in Green Valley is a perfect fit.
"Our goal in moving into the Green Valley neighborhood is to live out the dreams of the pioneers of Nauck/Green Valley who created a bridge for the next generation of African American business owners and social activists," she said.
Gainey's ambitious goal is to help employers meet the rising demand for qualified IT and cybersecurity professionals by training young underrepresented talent such as women and minorities, providing opportunities for them to develop their knowledge and skills by creating cybersecurity products and services targeting youth Internet safety. Gainey has set her sights on representing the next generation of pioneers by being a future bridge builder advancing a mission to promote diversity and inclusion in the fields of cybersecurity, healthcare, and technology through education, training, financial literacy, coaching, entrepreneurship and mentorship.

"I don't find many young people aspiring to careers in cyber or technology because they simply don't see IT and cybersecurity professionals or careers," said Gainey, who has worked in IT and cybersecurity for more than 20 years. "Fortunately, MySecureKid is looking to be part of the solution."
