Since 1976, the mission of National Rehabilitation Awareness Week is to be a nationwide celebration that helps educate people about the benefits and impact of rehabilitation, develop programs which aim to increase opportunities for the nearly 50 million Americans with disabilities and help those who are disabled live up to their fullest potential. The focus is again on raising awareness of the #PowerOfMedicalRehab, providing information on medical rehabilitation patient outcomes and disseminating useful resources and reviewing patient journeys to recovery.

Physical therapists are highly trained, licensed health care professionals who diagnose and restore people of all ages who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. Physical therapists examine everyone, develop a plan of care, and use various treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function and prevent, or work to improve disability.
