Good Wood Nashville launches E.W. Carpenter bespoke woodworking studio
eTradeWire News/10796509
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - eTradeWire -- In 2012, Dave Puncochar started selling lumber out of his garage as a hobby. He had a dream to create new flooring out of old, reclaimed wood, and found that this sparked a lot of interest. What originally started as a pastime became a business for Dave, one that he called Good Wood because, as he puts it, "the old stuff, is the good stuff".
Soon customers started inquiring about furniture built from the reclaimed lumber that Good Wood offered, and after enough interest and the enlistment of a few friends, Good Wood's custom furniture division was born.
Since 2012, the Good Wood has grown to offer a variety of lumber, including live-edge, reclaimed, new and dimensional lumber and even sheet goods like plywood. The furniture division has evolved to offer an almost limitless catalogue, having built one-of-a-kind desks, dining tables, conference tables, cabinets, beds and more.
Though, as both divisions of Good Wood grew, it became apparent that lumber supply and custom furniture really are two different businesses. Wood, its beauty, and that part of the Good Wood DNA were ingrained in both parts of the business but practically, it was time for them to 'leave the nest'.

On January 1st, 2025, Good Wood Nashville was officially split into two separate businesses. A lumber and supply store, who would retain the Good Wood Nashville name; and a custom wood working company, E.W. Carpenter, LLC. The new name comes straight from Dave Puncochar's grandmother, Rita Haley McManus, from whom Dave drew great inspiration. Dave's grandmother came from a long line of storied craftsmen, one of which was Emmanuel Weidler Carpenter.
As Dave thought about what to name the new company, he decided to pay tribute to his grandmother Rita Haley McManus, her great (x3) grandfather, and the legacy of strength, dignity and craftsmanship in his family. With this announcement we build on our own 13 year legacy of quality and E.W.'s craftsmanship from long ago. Dave Puncochar and Good Wood Nashville are proud to introduce you to E.W. Carpenter, Nashville's newest bespoke woodworking studio.
