GBAMFS Issues Rebuttal to Videogames Europe on "Stop Killing Games" Debate
eTradeWire News/10809101
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - eTradeWire -- Gaming Brethren Advocates Release Formal Rebuttal to Videogames Europe on "Stop Killing Games"
New publication challenges industry's claims, defends preservation, consumer rights, and cultural integrity
[West Palm Beach, FL] — The Gaming Brethren Advocates Mutual-aid Federation & Society (GBAMFS) today published a comprehensive rebuttal to the recently issued position paper by Videogames Europe (VGE), which seeks to justify the practice of remotely disabling purchased games after publishers withdraw support. The response is titled Stop Killing Games: The Case Against Deletion and is now available at www.gbamfs.org.
The 12-section document dismantles VGE's claims regarding technical infeasibility, player safety, licensing rights, and supposed legal barriers to preservation. It argues instead for pragmatic, sustainable end-of-life solutions such as final-state server binaries, offline fallback modes, and community-run hosting—methods that have been proven effective in games like DOOM, Minecraft, and RuneScape.

"This isn't about forcing developers to maintain live servers forever," said Jdawg, lead author and certified InfoSec practitioner. "It's about stopping the practice of deleting games from existence after sale—something no other media market would accept."
The rebuttal also highlights the cultural, developmental, and educational value of modding communities, pointing out that many industry professionals got their start in fan-made projects enabled by open access. It warns that eliminating this continuity risks cutting off future innovation and talent.
GBAMFS calls on policymakers, preservationists, and players to recognize the need for enforceable digital access standards, and reiterates full support for the Stop Killing Games petition at www.stopkillinggames.com.
