RALEIGH, N.C. - eTradeWire -- Gary Kevin Coats, real estate operations officer at Coats Custom Homes, has been credited for his work on the transformation of Caraleigh Mills, which was the conversion of an old textile (cotton) mill into luxury condominiums. Caraleigh Mills, a unique condo community in downtown Raleigh, is located 1.5 miles from Raleigh's center. Caraleigh Mills is a historic Raleigh condo community. It was once the Fred Whitaker Cotton Mill. Now it has been transformed into an elegant loft-style condominium community. There are 1, 2, and 3 bedroom homes in the community. They range from less than 1,000 square feet to more than 2,200. Original hardwoods, original hardwood beams, large windows, exposed wood beams, and brick walls are all part of the homes.

When the mill closed in 1999, it attracted broad interest from developers who wished to redevelop the property. Gary Kevin Coats' real estate firm Featured Properties assisted in the sale of Caraleigh Mills. Based in Raleigh, Featured Properties was a boutique real estate brokerage firm offering a full line of residential and commercial real estate services and support. Gary Kevin Coats was the broker/owner and employed a small staff of junior brokers.

Featured Properties was primarily focused on residential brokerage for the remainder of its existence. In 2014, Kevin joined the family company, Coats Custom Homes, to run the remodeling and construction divisions.  Much of the work during this time was speculative in nature. Coats Custom Homes purchased existing homes, then performed a full renovation, with the end result to resell the home once all construction was complete.
