eTradeWire News/10839333
MAITLAND, Fla. - eTradeWire -- Fifteen organizations across Florida have been awarded one-year, $5,000 grants to implement health literacy programs benefiting adult education, ESOL, and family literacy students.
These mini-grants, funded by the Florida Blue Foundation and administered by the Florida Literacy Coalition, support the integration of health and nutrition education into local literacy and adult education programs. The initiative helps students develop the knowledge, literacy skills, and resources needed to navigate the health care system and make informed health decisions.
More than 26,000 adult learners throughout Florida have benefited from the initiative. The Florida Literacy Coalition congratulates the following grant recipients:

Health care professionals and adult educators increasingly recognize the connection between literacy skills and overall health outcomes. Individuals with limited English proficiency or low literacy and health literacy skills often face greater challenges understanding medical information, managing chronic conditions, using medications properly, and navigating the health care system. These barriers can contribute to poorer health outcomes and increased health care costs. Adult education, literacy, ESOL, and family literacy programs can play a critical role in helping individuals build the language, literacy, and health literacy skills needed to make informed decisions and lead healthier lives.
