First Flight Society Celebrates National Aviation Day 2025 on Tuesday, August 19th
eTradeWire News/10810456
KITTY HAWK, N.C. - eTradeWire -- The First Flight Society announced their annual celebration of National Aviation Day. This year is the 86th anniversary of National Aviation Day. Activities will take place at Dare County Regional Airport (MQI). Admission and parking are free at the airport. The event will run from 10:00AM until 3:00 PM and is aimed at all ages. The mission of the celebration is to provide a fun and educational experience promoting, honoring, and celebrating the accomplishments of the Wright Brothers and helping educate the world about aviation.
This year, we are partnering with the Beach Food Pantry to include a food drive for those in need on the Outer Banks. If you are checking in to your OBX stay the weekend before, add a few items on your first food shopping run to bring. As you know, this year has been difficult for food banks, with reduced resources at a time when there is more need for their services.

The morning activities will consist of Airplane Displays, Speakers, Exhibitors, and Food Trucks. Birthday Cake and a Scavenger Hunt are planned as additional fun for the kids Some of the exhibitors include Kitty Hawk Kites, Xelevate, College of the Albemarle, Outer Banks Forever, The Outer Banks Visitors Bureau and Dare County. There will be several aircraft on display from many eras of flight. Pilots are encouraged to fly into MQI and show off their planes, as well.
NAD is also Orville and Katharine Wright's birthday. Former president Franklin D. Roosevelt was the creator of National Aviation Day, deciding for the first time in 1939 that the nation should celebrate the growth and advancements being made in aviation. Mr. Wright, born in 1871, was still alive when the proclamation was first issued. Katharine Wright, sister of Orville and Wilbur was also born on August 19th, but in 1874.
Dare County Regional airport (MQI) is located at 410 Airport Road, Manteo, NC 27954.
