Face-shield by Atomic Carrots now open-sourced
OAKLAND PARK, Fla. - eTradeWire -- Florida based exhibit design shop, Atomic Carrots, has created over 5,000 face shields and donated to dozens of organizations, including St.Catherine's Hospital and Jackson Memorial Hospital has made their design and fabrication process open-sourced. "Our design was featured on instrucatbles.com because of the detailed plans and instructions we provided to makers.", says Nora Pinell-Hernandez, Creative Director of Atomic Carrots. Makers with a CNC or laser machine can create Atomic Carrot's shields by following their instructions and plans at https://www.instructables.com/Face-Shield-With-Replaceable-Screens-for-Loupes/

Atomic Carrots has also donated to several Native American organizations including the Cherokee Nation, Navajo Nation, and the Chapa-De Indian Health center in California. The uniqueness of their face shield is that they were created to allow for dental loupes and in the beginning of the pandemic, very few manufactures focused on the dental community.

"Wanted to say thanks again as you have been so very generous with the face-shields. The Shields were received very well. In this pix is our orthodontist and other staff. He especially loved the design, especially the longer version." said Bonnier Berger from Chapa-De Indian Health Center after a donation to their team.

From the start of the pandemic, Atomic Carrots collaborated with an ICU nurse and respiratory therapist to create a heavy duty reusable face shield that will protect doctors and nurses from exposure to droplets during the intubation process of a patient. Face Shields are not new to healthcare professionals. These shields have been used for decades providing protection to the wearer's entire face from germs, droplets, and viruses.

Around June of 2020 Pinell-Hernandez was approached by a family dentist to create a face shield to accommodate loupes. Dental hygiene is very important to overall health and thus she decided to dive deeper into the production of custom shields. Many dental hygienists have continued to wear face shields because they saw that it protected them from bodily fluids getting on their face during deep cleanings. Face shields will always be in demand in healthcare settings but Atomic Carrots believes it is time to continue their museum fabrication work as more shields have become available for the dental community.
