So you just went through the car wash, the exterior sparkles and shines.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - eTradeWire -- So you just went through the car wash, the exterior sparkles and shines. Then you notice the inside of your windshield is streaky and grimy? Here's why and what you can do to clean it properly.

While the inside of a windshield collects things like dust, oils, and/or smoker's residue, much of buildup can be traced back to "off gassing". This is when the materials from the interior of the vehicle like the dashboard, seats, etc. release gases and evaporate onto the windshield. Another reason for streaky glass is cleaning products used to wipe the dash down, as they can leave an oily film on the glass (https://tiphero.com/right-way-to-clean-your-win...). All that grime can impair your ability (https://tiphero.com/defogging-car-windows/) to see clearly while driving, especially at night.

1.Pre-wipe the inside of the windshield using a dry microfiber towel, wipe down the entire windshield in a circular motion. Follow up by wiping it in an up and down pattern.

2. To degrease the glass, Mix a bowl of warm water with a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid and add in just a few drops of vinegar. Soak a clean microfiber towel in the mixture, ringing out excess, paper towels will also work they won't get the glass as clean as microfiber ones. The little paper fibers can remain on the glass during and after cleaning.wipe the interior of the car windshield. Once you've thoroughly washed the inside of the windshield, dry the surface with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Follow the same process with your windows and back windshield.          Don't skip the drying step. Lingering residue can damage your windshield, even if you're using a cleaner formulated specifically for autoglass. Not drying the windshield after you clean it will also cause streaks to develop.

3.Finally, using the same wiping technique as in the pre-wipe step, clean it up with a cleaner specifically formulated for glass. Don't spray cleaning solution directly on the windshield. This is more likely to cause smeared patches and streaks, and really just moves gunk around instead of removing it.

Remember leaving harsh cleaning solutions sitting on the glass can damage any protective coatings or tints, particularly if your car is parked outside in the heat and exposed to direct sunlight. On top of removing any streaks, you'll want to be sure that any residue from the cleaning solution is completely gone.

If you still notice streaks and glares on your windshield (https://www.autoglassnj.com/) after following these tips, the issue could be on the outside of your windshield rather than the inside. Give the outside a thorough cleaning with these same tips and double check your windshield wipers.
