Daughter Commemorates Her Father's WWII Service Through the Letters He Wrote Home

eTradeWire News/10761331
NEEDHAM, Mass. - eTradeWire -- After the parents of Paula Roberts had died, she was sorting through their possessions at the home they shared for many years in Scotia, New York, across the Mohawk River from Schenectady. She found a trunk that contained hundreds of letters that her father, Paul Roberts, had written to her mother, Bernice, while he was serving in the U.S Army during World War II.

The letters provide vivid details of his experiences in boot camp, then Officer Candidate School, on the battlefield in Europe as Allied Forces pushed into Germany, where he suffered a serious wound from German artillery fire, to his long recovery in England and back in the States.

And now, all of these components have been carefully curated and assembled into a book with her annotations to the letters that brings together the entire story. Sealed With a Kiss, named after how her father ended his letters to her mother, provides a unique record of the everyday hopes, dreams, and events in the lives of a couple separated by war but connected by love.

Throughout his wartime odyssey, he wrote hundreds of letters to his fiancée Bernice back home in upstate New York. His correspondence provides not only an intimate view of a relationship challenged but ultimately strengthened by separation and adversity, but a historic yet personal perspective of the war in Europe by one of the men who led troops into battle during the world's deadliest conflict.
