Cryolab Publishes Guidance on LN2 Storage Vessel Selection for UK IVF Laboratories
eTradeWire News/10839272
MANCHESTER, U.K. - eTradeWire -- CryoNest and CryoCan ranges positioned against vapour phase requirements, capacity planning, and HFEA monitoring obligations
Cryolab, UK specialist in cryogenic equipment for IVF and reproductive medicine with over 40 years of sector experience, has published guidance for IVF laboratory managers and procurement leads on selecting the correct liquid nitrogen storage vessel for embryo and gamete banking.
The guidance identifies procurement decisions sized on current inventory as the most common error in IVF storage vessel selection. Cryolab advises sizing for worst-case capacity at the end of a 24-month growth projection, plus 20 per cent contingency for storage extensions, consent renewals, and samples retained beyond the expected timeline.
The guidance covers the distinction between vapour phase and liquid phase storage, identifying vapour phase as appropriate for IVF embryo banking where samples from multiple patients are stored in the same vessel. Cross-contamination risk from shared liquid nitrogen is documented in clinical case reports, and HFEA and ESHRE guidance both acknowledge this risk for submerged storage.

Cryolab's CryoNest range is designed for high-capacity vapour phase embryo banking with a rack-and-canister system suited to busy embryo banks with HFEA audit requirements. The CryoCan range covers a broader set of storage applications, including andrology units, satellite clinics, and laboratories managing mixed sample types.
The guidance also covers static evaporation rate as the operationally relevant vessel specification for labs with variable LN2 delivery schedules, and HFEA monitoring requirements including continuous temperature monitoring, calibrated probes, alarm thresholds below -130°C, and documented out-of-hours response protocols.
Cryolab is ISO 9001:2015 certified and supplies IVF clinics, NHS trusts, sperm banks, and research institutions globally.
