Following 'Stay at Home' previsions, local pet resort offer First Responders receive free daycare and all essential workers $1 daycare during statewide mandate.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - eTradeWire -- In an effort to support their local community and aiding in combating the spread of COVID-19, County Roads Pet Resort has announced they will be offering free pet daycare for all first responders and $1 per day pet daycare for essential workers living within 50 miles of the resort.

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice issued a statewide 'Stay at Home' order effective March 24, 2020, at 8:00 p.m. The move is forcing residents to stay at home except for "essential needs," while others working in what are deemed as "essential" occupations are still working with few options regarding day care for their pets.

Pet care has been listed as an essential occupation (https://dhhr.wv.gov/COVID-19/Pages/Governor-Iss...) including:

The owners of County Roads Pet Resort realized that their team could do their part for essential workers by ensuring their pets receive the proper care and support during this global pandemic.

"We're all being impacted, but our free and $1 pet care services are our way of thanking first responders and local essential workers for their continued support and unwavering dedication during this time," says Cantu, who runs the resort with her husband Jesse.

She adds that this service will give workers more peace of mind. "They will now have one less thing to worry about, as their pet will be tired and happy from playing all day when they arrive for pickup. First responders and essential workers are understandably exhausted taking on the new challenges of a worldwide pandemic."

With the long hours expected of many healthcare workers, the long times alone at home for pets have shown to have a negative impact for pets and their families. Studies have shown negative effects on pets who are alone for a long period of time, including increased anxiety, weight and hair loss, rashes, and erratic behavior, among others.
